This is where I start getting serious.
Really serious.
As in competing for money serious.
The Orange County Fair is having it's annual art competition. It's one I've entered before, but I want to win this one, so I need to look at subject matter, composition, color....I need to look really professional.
Or I could just relax and just draw a few more cats.
The thing of it is, I'm up against professionals. I need to really shine this time. The money is pretty good for a fair...I'm not sneezing at $400, believe me. Think of all the art supplies I can afford. I also want to be seen. As in get more people interested in buying my artwork. I admit, I don't like hiding in the background while others take up the forefront. I've been too nice when it comes to contests. This year, I need to be a little more pushy. Famous artists didn't get to where they are by just sitting there. Monet and his merry band changed the world by setting up their own art exhibition as opposed to the Salon. They changed the course of art with their unique look at their subject matter. No more staid paintings of Biblical or mythological characters. They went after the ordinary and made it extraordinary. They took risks. Am I planning on changing the way people look at art? No, since Banksy (that little so and so) has already done that. I want people to sit up and take notice of what I do. The above portrait in progress is either going to be a study or an entry. I think a study, but we'll see. If I'm going to be risky, let's break out everything I have.
I'll keep you posted.
Cheers!
